Us here at DAR Constitution Hall are so excited to welcome the next voices of Gospel music to the stage for the How Sweet The Sound Gospel Competition, taking place right here in Washington D.C. on Saturday, May 24th, for all of our viewing and listening pleasure. Established in 2007 and with a mission to elevate the Gospel scene in America, How Sweet The Sound has quickly rose to an international radar for finding the next and greatest voices in the field - not only pointing out the next talents in front of crowds of thousands (and on Fox Soul T.V., too) - but also awarding grants and scholarships to all of those who win. 

At its core, How Sweet The Sound is deeply committed to authentic community engagement. They partner with talent and organizations that have meaningful causes to raise money for them during their showcases, particularly interested in advocating mental health awareness in POC communities. This, along with other community outreach and advocacy methods, keeps the competition in constant rotation and in the hearts of all who pass through its rotation of new talent. The competition above all is friendly, and meant to be a place where all can come to enjoy, love, and give praise! The showcase has a list of approved songs for the year, set judges and industry leaders, and a star-studded crew of hosts year in and year out. If you aren’t competing on the big stage this year, you should still come and check out all the good news the talent has brung with them. 

Last year, How Sweet The Sound went global - hosting their first European competition that saw the finale take place in London’s Royal Albert Hall. The new iteration of the contest saw Gospel groups from The U.K., Italy, and Spain all competing for top prizes in the legendary London hall, and saw choirs walk away with more confidence than ever. Speaking with the winners from Barcelona in the 2024 iteration, Vocal Groove’s director David Suarez told Evangelical Focus that Gospel’s passion and core voice is still relevant.

“We have all agreed that God has done something special. We have felt His leading, and we all have a sense that it was not just for this moment, but that this has happened for something more. God has given us this gift, but we want to use it to do gospel the way God has taught us, and to make it known as much as possible, to share this music that we love so much and that we love so much,”.
